You can lose money and if you don’t have a reference to go with, you got a few traps like bankruptcies and such. I read my first book on it and recommend that you at least read a few.
First i’m not sure what company is processing it in your example since local government agencies usually do not charge processing fees. If you are in Arizona, you would get 16% return per annum on the $56.99 if it is paid off by the tax payer.

California is not a tax lien certificate state. California tax sales are called tax-deliquent sales. For more information on how the whole process works, read the following book:

tax sales (for deliquent property taxes) are advertised in the paper and happen once a year..
at the auction…you can put up the 5 k..on taxes…
so……..lets see..now 5k and sacremento.. maybe a condo..
because with the bid/auction you are paying the deliquent taxes and the auction price…. if the owner pays in the year due..you get ap. 8% interest on your money so big investors buy..and auction..and hard and high..because they get better interest than banks..on these..
some people actually do get a purchase at the end of the year..and this is cash….
so chances of getting something for 5k are slim..and if you do..that is easy to repay…

Each county is different so you will need to contact the tax assessors office to find out the details and timing of their sale. Tax Certificates can be a great investment if you stay at it.

Investing in tax liens can be a really good investment if you know what you are doing. It isn’t as easy as it sounds. I suggest reading several books on the subject before jumping into it. Check on amazon under “tax liens” and then see if those books are available at the library if you don’t want to purchase them.

why would you want to buy a lien on a house? well i suppose this is just a scan… most liens on propertyies are from mortgage company or some other debt-based service…
